Directions and Contact Information1) Where are we going?ASFSR- RuSSA would like to invite you to the third summer camping trip organized by our Social event coordinator Peter Panchine and Mr. President Maxim Dokoukine. This time we will be going to Killarney Provincial Park to do some serious hiking as well as relaxing in the forest, swimming in Gergian Bay and watching beautiful sunsets and sunrises.
Here is the official description of the park that we borrowed from the website:
Considered one of Ontario Parks’ crown jewels, this majestic, mountainous wilderness of sapphire lakes and jack pine ridges so captivated artists – including The Group of Seven’s A.Y. Jackson – that they persuaded the Ontario government to make it a park. Once higher than the Rocky Mountains, La Cloche’s white quartzite cliffs gleam like snowy peaks from afar. Where paddlers, hikers, skiers and snowshoers now journey through in this craggy, imposing landscape, there is evidence that others passed thousands of years before.

Killarney is a vast and beautiful tract of wilderness, with crystal-blue lakes, a spectacular range of white quartzite ridges, pine and hardwood forests, and boggy lowlands. Its beauty and magnificent, unspoiled scenery has inspired many artists, including members of the Group of Seven.

The park's most striking feature is the series of rocky ridges, mostly consisting of white quartzite, that dominate the landscape. These large, rounded hills are the remains of the La Cloche range, a ring of mountains that formed in Precambrian time, about 2 billion years ago, and towered higher than the present-day Rockies.
Four ice ages, over the last million years, scraped away the tops of the mountains, filled in some of the crevices between the bedrock outcrops, and left innumerable sandy ridges marking the temporary shorelines of ancient meltwater lakes. Along these former shorelines, archeologists have uncovered evidence of three prehistoric encampments, from 9000, 6500 and 1500 years ago.
The park is in the transition zone between the northern boreal forest region and the St. Lawrence-Great Lake lowlands, so there is a wide variety of plant and animal life within its boundaries. Some species, like black cherry and American beech, are rarely found this far north. More than 100 species of bird breed in the park.
La Cloche Silhouette Trail 100 km loop – eto tuda kuda mi poydem!!!!!!!

Although this trail takes up to 10 days to do in its entirety, hikers can take shorter hikes starting from two trailheads in George Lake Campground. (Day hikers should leave sufficient time to retrace their steps along the trail back to the campground.)
The west section of this trail is moderate, heading to Acid and Lumsden lakes over rolling forested hills. It crosses small streams and rivers, occasionally following the rocky shores of small lakes. Keep on the lookout for wildlife, or clues of their presence.

The east section of this trail heads uphill to the Crack, a ridge with a vista of rugged and scenic landscapes. Considered strenuous, this section passes through forests and wetlands and over rocky ridges. It takes 12 hours of steady hiking and you have to climb over large boulders to reach the top of the ridge. Do not try to reach the Crack unless you are in good shape and can get an early start.
